Introduction
MyPirates is an international and multi-langual social network of the Pirates Party. It was founded by Tobias Neumann who is member of the national association Hessen. The network is online since calendar week 48/2009 and will get an update in the time between mid and end December.
Idea
The essential idea of myPirates.net is to provide all Pirate Parties with a network which makes it possible to communicate between all countries. The members could discuss, exchange experiences and work together. But the network should not only be used by Pirates. Far from it! Social networks like StudiVZ, Facebook and others are used by many people who are familiar with using them. So it is much easier for those people to use a social network than a wiki or other communication tools. This disburdens work and supportiveness massive. But this is only a positive side action, the first and most important effect should be to bring Pirates together, to give them the possibility to exchange experiences beyond boundaries of all kind.
History of origins
The idea of building a Pirates Panel was introduced by Tobias Neumann at the second open board meeting of the national association Hessen in June 2009. Before this there were already some considerations about such a network which ended in the PirateVZ network (June 2008). But the was only little interest of the members in this platform. Then there were cases against Holzbrink concerning everything named “VZ”, so this platform was deactivated. Now some time elapsed and elsewhere arose the idea of a having a Pirate Mediaportal, that is to say in Berlin by XXX. XXX now founded PiratenCom. In the beginning of both of those projects there were some communicational problems and not everything was that good as it could. Then there were annoying rumours, which said that the responsible persons did steal design, layout, idea and/or programcode from PiratenCom. Nobody knows who spreaded the rumours or why they were planted. Anyway nothing of this is true. In the following confusion both teams myPirates and PiratenCom got together and found a solution. Both networks should be combined and users should have a double-account on both of them. But this was not as easy to do as to think of. It was not possible to exchange data with Dolphin of Boonex. Since XXX already done a lot of work he preferred to stay with his system. So was decided that a combination which included using another software was not possible.
The team of the workgroup (AG) myPirates has now decided about an own technical way concerning the used software. The next weeks there will be lots of software testing and after that the network will go online.
Even if a co-operation in a network like StudiVZ and MeinVZ is not possible now, myPirates and PiratenCom will work together in friendship and cooperation. They won´t be competitors but friends, like real pirates. What should be noted is that PiratenCom is a private project and not part of the Pirates Party. myPirates is a project of the national association Hessen, is supported by Pirates of the whole Party, not only Hessen and is an officially accepted Pirates Party network.
Update 30th of November 2009: PiratenCom has discontinued it´s sevice (mid December 2009), XX has abandoned this project. As reasonwas that the Pirate Party has already their own social network projects (however this was already known far before the PiratenCom online service). The service of myPirates is not concerned by these processes.
Some more news: Since calendar week 48/2009 myPirates.net is online and can be used by everyone. We are very happy and proud that all work which was done during the bygone seven months now has an outcome. We present the first installation of myPirates (which is based on Crabgrass software) and hope you will soon visit us and – last but not least – will intensly use this platform to communication with pirates of all countries.
