6th International E-Democracy Talk

Frauke Mattfeld presents the concept and idea of probble.de:

probble! is a problem solving platform for the collaborative solving of problems.

For a short overview here are the basic functionalities of the platform listed:
- Description of a problem
- Adding documents, images and YouTube-Videos to the description
- History of the description (like Wikipedia)
- structure of a problem (parent and child problem)
- Categorize and localize the problem
- Google map function
- Adding ideas for the solving of problems
- Adding documents, images and YouTube-Videos to the idea
- Supporting a problem and an idea
- Connecting problems with each other
- Adding events to the problem (a kind of calendar function)
- Searching for problems based on the following properties: location (country, state), category, date, supports

09:15 PM    -    Presentation
During the presentation questions by the audience are allowed solely for understanding! More deep questions should be entered into the QUESTIONS paragraph below to be answered later.

10:00 PM    -    Questions and Answers.
The questions entered to the QUESTIONS paragraph are answered by the speaker from top to down first. Then next open questions from the audience are answered.

How can we solve problems together based on the i-net ?
- How basically we solve problems ? / so this system is issue based
  - What is a problem ?
    - Something with what you are not satisfied
On the platform:
- 1. Problem has to be described; can be anything
  - social problem
  - problem in city
  - global problem affecting more than 1 person
- basic set-up:
  - Top box: Title of the Topic
  - Left side shows the current state of the art / description of the problem
  - Right side scetches the vision, the ideas for solving the problem
- incorporates the approach to split one complex problem into many smaller problems/aspects
  - How splitting works ?
    - 1. you have to be registered & log-in
      - then additional functionalities will occure and than you will see it
        everyone can split and edit a topic ( =O )
        That's why a wiki-like history is integrated into the system
- suitable for open-minded questions and yes/no-questions, probably also philosophical questions
  - Questions need to be staffed with properties (connected with filter function)
    - location
    - category
- right side:
  - everyone can add ideas to the problems for solving it
    - there are different functionalities
      - pro/con argument
      - support of an idea
      - support of a problem (this will effect the ranking of the search engine)
- similar questions/problems
  - by this you can connect questions/problems with each other in the system
  - this also can by done by anyone
- so, basically by default everybody can do everything, just like in wikipedia
  - ideas can't by changed (so you can't turn an idea into the opposite)
    - so if you want to change something regarding ideas you need to add a new idea
    - you can add comments to ideas by the pro/contra-argument function
      - if you click on the pro/contra-argument a side with 2 lists appear; a pro and contra list
        the arguments are not connected to each other
- no extended discussion, but a discussion reduced on its essentials and being concise
